Why I’m Doing More Coaching and Mentoring

"I’m in a rut. I feel stuck and lost, like I don’t know who I am anymore." I hear this so often, and every time, my heart aches with recognition. It’s why I’ve dedicated my work to creating spaces where women can rediscover their power, reconnect with their truth, and step into a life of more authenticity, joy and freedom.

When I started teaching yoga and meditation 20 years ago, it changed my life. My nervous system calmed, my body felt good, and—most importantly—I felt more, well, me! I learned how to quiet the parts of me that were afraid, and instead, tapped into my bigger longing for a meaningful and fulfilled life.

Teaching yoga evolved into training and mentoring hundreds of yoga and meditation teachers, and I loved witnessing their transformations. Becoming a teacher was often just the beginning for these folks. The process gave them better clarity about who they are and what they wanted, courage to step into their power and potential, and create extraordinary changes: I saw amazing things happen!

In every cohort without fail, they would -

  • Leave jobs that drained them.

  • Start businesses or side hustles.

  • Set boundaries they never thought possible.

  • Strengthen, end or reshape relationships.

  • Follow dreams like traveling or living by the sea.

The list goes on….

If you’ve been through this process with me, let me hear an AMEN! Because you’ll know exactly what I mean (and let me say a deep, DEEP thank you for trusting me ! )

And I'll share a secret with you (as it's just me and you here right?) - this work was never just about teaching yoga—it was about their inner transformation, and this being a catalyst for outer change.

I realised I’ve always been a kind of doula for personal transformation, guiding people through the messy, beautiful process of becoming more themselves. Whether in yoga trainings, my 20 years of mentoring women in recovery, or now coaching. The most powerful (and privilaged!) part of my work is holding a bigger vision for someone until they can see it for themselves - to reflect it back until they find the courage to step into it and claim it.

When someone trusts me enough to share the truth about their dreams and fears, and take hesitant steps out of their comfort zone (who they think they are) and into the unknown (who I believe they can be) something sacred is happening. It’s a precious relationship that a cherish deeply.

A few years ago, I had a lightbulb moment: This is what I love most—helping women step into their authentic selves and create lives that feel aligned, fulfilling, and free. So, I took my own advice! I redesigned my life and work so I could now foreground the thread that’s always been there, woven into everything I do – exploring people’s inner lives, their psychology and personal growth, their beliefs, feelings and internal life and how these affect their choices and the way they show up in the world. I wanted to offer better support for the women who were ready to step into their authentic selves, their power and freedom – in tiny steps or big leaps – and create both inner contentment and outer fulfilment (we really can have both).

I trained at the Modern Elder Academy and studied with Mel Robbins (yep, that super famous coach and podcast host). I refined my process and built stronger bridges to support women who feel ready (ish) to embrace their “what’s next” with curiosity, scitement (scared and excited), wonder, and awe: to grow their brave.

The women I work with are brilliant – smart, hard-working, kind-hearted and full of ideas for a better world. They have bags of potential, but somewhere along the way they got the memo that pursuing their own dreams was selfish (I’ll talk more on this next week). They grapple with shame, guilt and self-doubt and keep themselves small - going through the motions and convincing themselves this was enough. They lost touch with their passion, inner strength and potential.

I get it. I've absolutely had periods like this and we all go through this at times. It breaks my heart—and lights me up—because I know this moment well, the “I can’t, because...” phase. There is SO much potential in this moment, it blows my beautiful mind.

Aaannnnnd....in today's polical landscape, I'm more convinced than ever we need women standing fully in their truth and power - in whatever tiny, insignificant, big, powerful or visible ways that might be.

If this resonates with you, I see you. And when you’re ready, I’ll be here to walk alongside you, helping you uncover your truth and create a life that’s fully yours. Just send me a message and let me know What’s your biggest challenge right now?

If you're already there, I salute you! I'm cheering for you from the sidelines to keep going - we need you.

And if you’re not there yet, trust yourself with that too. Keep listening in. And when the time IS right, you’ll know.

Sending you so much love as you navigate this time,

Deborah
